With the great success of my SUPER HONEST 2019 Cape Town Winter Specials list I had a couple of questions about great specials in the Winelands. If you’ve been following the blog for some time you’ll know I am a huge fan of weekends away or even lazy Sunday lunches or fancy date nights out in the Winelands. There’s plenty of content up about Stellenbosch and Franschhoek which I always encourage locals to visit. We have so much beauty within easy reach and during winter the value is even better!! And so without much more fuss – here is my 2019 Winelands Winter Specials list!

The 2019 Winelands Winter Specials List

1) The Restaurant at Jordan

Jordan, Stellenbosch

Jordan is one of my favourite restaurants in Stellenbosch with beautiful views, an exceptional menu and really lovely estate wines. On our last visit I was blown away by the incredible quail dish and was confirmed as a fan for life with their delicious poppy seed soufflé. If you want the best soufflé in South Africa – find a George Jardine restaurant!

They have a couple of fantastic specials this year running until the end of September.

You can enjoy two 5 course menus with wine pairing for the price of one until the end of September at R995 per couple on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. I haven’t tried this special yet but I am definitely scheming to squeeze this in before the special is over!

They also have a wine, dine and stay special which is looking TOO tempting…. You can spend a night in their luxury suites, enjoy a 5-course food and wine pairing experience at The Restaurant, a bottle of wine to enjoy at your leisure and breakfast for two at the bakery the next day for R3,545 per couple. I know that is a big chunk of money but in terms of value for money that is pretty damn fantastic!

2) Jardine in Stellenbosch

Jono and I visited Jardine recently to try out their five-course dinner for two at R680! The restaurant is centrally locating in the town of Stellenbosch and is super cosy with a big fireplace keeping you toasting. It was such a gorgeous winter date night spot and the food was delicious! I am going to pull together a full blog post on our experience but for now – just book a table before the end of September!!

3) Faber at Avondale

I have long been a fan of Avondale wines but have yet to visit their estate! I have heard that a wine tasting and lunch at Faber is the perfect way to spend a Sunday. This winter they are offering a three course set menu for R298 with an option to include two glasses of wine for R370 until the end of August. I would definitely vote to include their delicious wines! We are looking to visit in soon when we are spending a night over in Paarl. And I will be sure to report back!

4) Restaurant Seven

Toomuchloveliness: Restaurant Seven

We recently had a fantastic dinner at Restaurant Seven to try out their winter special! They are offering a three-course set menu for R295 until the end of September. I’d highly recommend reading all the details over on the blog post. But in short, the food is superb, the staff are wonderful and the winter special is truly great value for money!! And you best make sure you save space for their soufflé, because yes, this is a George Jardine restaurant and yes, the soufflé is divine!

5) Joostenberg Bistro

We recently joined friends for an incredible lunch at De Kraal at Joostenberg estate. I can definitely recommend a visit but it is more of a splurge than the Bistro! But if our first experience at Joostenberg was anything to go by then the Bistro will be great too! Joostenberg Bistro is offering a dish of the day and dessert for R95 until the end of August. The dish of the day changes weekly but could include favourites like coq au vin or homemade sausages with lentils and dessert options like crème caramel or poached guavas with cinnamon crème anglaise.

If you’re looking for authentic rustic french cuisine in a beautiful setting then you’re definitely going to need to try these guys! Make sure to order their cinsault – it is superb!

6) Gabrielskloof’s Sunday LunchGabrielskloof, Botriver

I absolutely adore the food at Gabrielskloof and we always visit the estate when in Botriver even if it is just for a sneaky wine tasting! During the winter months they offering their five course Sunday lunch for R385 per person or R450 with wine. Based on the caliber of the wine at the estate I would highly recommend opting for the “with wine” option. Make sure to book a spot next to the fireplace and settle in for a long lazy lunch! You’re likely to find dishes such as crispy pork belly, hearty casseroles, soups, grilled trout and curried wheat salad on their five course menu.

If you’re looking to turn your visit to Botriver into a full weekend I would highly recommend checking out this post on the wonderful weekend we spent in the valley!

7) Protégé Tapas Menu

2019 Winelands Winter Specials

I was a little torn about including this one. We visited Protégé at the beginning of winter to try their new special. It sounded like it was going to tick all the boxes – small plates, Franschheok, great value menu. I took so many photos to get ready for a mammoth blog post. BUT… I would only recommend Protégé with a very large caveat.

Their menu is made up of small plates and they encourage you to order three or four dishes which they bring out in courses. Between course one and two we waited over an hour and after we spoke to a manager they said the kitchen was struggling with too many orders and would be sending the food out soon. The restaurant was probably about 60% full at that point. We waited another twenty minutes after we followed up on our order. All in all it took us three hours to get three small plates of food. When they asked us if we wanted dessert we were scared to commit to another hour wait and rather said no.

SO! If you’re out in Franschheok and are looking for a very long and very slow lunch I would recommend you try Protégé and their winter special. The food is really delicious and the presentation is beautiful. They are offering 3 courses for R275 per person and you can add bottomless Môreson Solitaire bubbly for R195! And to be very honest, despite the slow kitchen that is really good value for money.

8) Cavalli six course menu2019 Winelands Winter Specials

We have visited Cavalli in Stellenbosch a couple of times and I really love the venue, the food and the great service. This winter they are offering six courses for R350 until the end of September. If you’d like to pair your dishes with Cavalli wine, it’ll cost R425.

9)La Petite Colombe’s 2019 Winelands Winter Specials

I have yet to visit La Petite Colombe but my foodie bestie B of The Secret Life of Bee raves about the food and the full experience. You can read about her full experience over here. She takes the most incredible photos, including these two below <3.

La Petite Colombe | The Secret Life of Bee

Since her high praise I have been dying to go. Their winter special is making it even more tempting! They’re offering a four-course lunch menu for R450 per person (R835 with wine pairing) until the end of August. And these fancy pants places always have secret extra courses! When I first read about this special I thought it was only for week days but lucky us it is from Monday to Sunday! What a perfect excuse to spend a Sunday lunch in Franschhoek!

10) Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery

Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery based on Spier Wine Farm is a comfort food hot spot with smoked meats, great bread and delicious beers. I last visited when it was Hoghouse and absolutely loved it. But I definitely think it is time we headed back! This winter they’re offering 50% off the chef’s platter which makes it R200 per person.

The chefs platter is made up of eight dishes including dishes like their corn battered Jalapéno chillies, pulled pork, smoked brisket and roasted beets with feta. The special is available from Mondays to Saturdays.

Happy dining and great saving this winter with the 2019 Winelands Winter Specials!
