Cosecha in Franschhoek is a long time favourite of mine. And sadly a spot we do not have a chance to visit often enough. They serve the most brilliant authentic Mexican food on Noble Hill’s wine farm. My idea of a perfect day out of Cape Town would be a walk through Babylonstoren paired with lunch at Cosecha! The upcoming summer days will be perfect for a visit to Cosecha. You can sit outside to soak in the sunshine and gorgeous views!

The Guaquistador Experience at Cosecha

One of the coolest things about Cosecha is their table side guaquistador experience! You have an expert guacamole maker arrive with fresh avocado, tomato, spring onions and homemade spices. Your guaquistador then walks you through the process and creates the perfect guacamole exactly to your preference! Don’t like tomatoes – no problem. Like your guacamole with an extra kick – easy peasy!

Your perfect guacamole can include extra blue cheese, bacon or pickled jalepenos. We went with extra jalapenos and loved the extra heat! The guacamole is served with a big bowl of warm tortilla chips. This is perfect for dunking big scoops of guac!

Other delicious starters

We were terribly greedy and decided to order chicken flautas to have with our guacamole and corn chips. Flautas are small rolled up tortillas stuffed with your filling of choice and then deep fried. Amazing- I know! These dishes were super delicious and definitely a great way to start lunch.

We enjoyed our lunch with a bottle of Noble Hill Viognier. This wine is light and easy drinking but can stand up to the Mexican food. If you don’t know the Noble Hill wines you should definitely pop in for a tasting before you sit down for lunch!

The Main event!

We got stuck into the tacos for lunch. We ordered the duck carnitas and pulled pork carnita tacos to share. The slow cooked pulled duck is topped with crispy onions and served in homemade tortillas. The spicy slow cooked pulled pork is topped with green apple salsa and red onions served in homemade tortillas.

These tacos were damn delicious and just what we were looking for! I loved the duck and pork fillings which were tender, juicy and packed with flavour. I love duck and thought the tacos were improved by the more-ish crispy onions and fresh tomatoes. The pulled pork paired with sharp and sweet apple salsa was brilliant and definitely a must try! But be careful, these guys can get a little hot!!

We had such a gorgeous lunch at Cosecha and I am hoping to head back soon to eat through more of their menu! I spotted fish tacos and spicy prawn tostadas! I also see they offer pre-order picnic baskets which sound delicious!
