We were recently invited to the Blanko Supper Club and had such a wonderful evening! I am so excited to share our experience with you- my only upset is that due to the romantic lighting my photos are not great. Please be forgiving of this!

We had joined Blanko before for lunch and really loved the food. We went in with high expectations and were delighted to have them exceeded! The Blanko Supper Club is on the last Thursday of every month featuring a four course pairing menu. For our month, June, we enjoyed a wonderful menu paired with Saxenburg wines.

We arrived to a warm welcome and a cold glass of bubbles. The Saxenburg Brut was delicious and paired perfectly with the seared tuna, lemon cream and crispy caper canapes. What I really loved about the experience is that the staff were more than happy to top up wine glasses! And we easily ate four or five of the gorgeous tuna canapes!! They really are very generous which makes the dinner a very special experience.

The Blanko Supper Club Begins!

After a couple of glasses of bubbly we were taken through to be seated in the private dining room for the evening. You are seated with your party- so don’t worry about a communal table crushing your date night dreams!

The winemaker at Saxenburg, and his team, were in attendance to introduced the wine farm and the wines we would be drinking that evening. I loved the opportunity to interact with the team behind the wines.

We started our dinner with Gorgonzola gnocchi served with prosciutto, walnut, lemon and pickled radish. I was expecting a decadent and creamy dish but loved this fresh and light version with zingy lemon and pickled radish.

This was paired with Saxenburg Chardonnay and I am ashamed to admit that we had two glasses even before the next course was served!! I would highly recommend uber’ing through to Blanko as there will be plenty to drink on the night!

The main course was lamb cutlets with Jerusalem artichoke puree, shimeji mushrooms, fondant potato and lamb jus. This was paired with a fantastic Saxenburg 2015 Shiraz. Please forgive the photo – it was unbelievably delicious but difficult to photograph in the dim light! Lamb chops are my ultimate favourites and the flavours were incredibly! I really loved this main course and would eat it again and again.

Dessert was a chocolate tart with salted caramel, chantilly cream and a cocoa oat crumble. This was definitely a dessert for a pure chocolate fan – dark chocolate, sweet caramel and the cream pulling it all together! The Saxenburg Merlot was served with dessert.

After dinner finished we sat by the fire, offered more red wine or another glass of bubbles! The hospitality and service was impeccable and we found it difficult to leave at the end of the night!

The Blanko Supper Club cost R375 per person for four courses paired with Saxenburg wines.
The next events are Glenmorangie Whiskey on July 26th and Waterford Wines   on August 30th. I am very tempted to book for the Waterford Wines evening… Anyone want to join my table?

They happen to have the most gorgeous hotel next door. Which means if you over indulge you can always check into a room at The Alphen! If you’re wanting top stay over that have a great deal for R2470 per couple which includes the supper club dinner, a night over and breakfast the following morning.

If you can’t make the Blanko Supper Club dinners make sure to pop by for their winter special. You can have a two course meal for R190 or a three course meal for R240 until the end of August. Their food is delicious and this is definitely a romantic spot for a date night!!
