I spend as much time as possible in beautiful Stellenbosch. It is always a highlight to indulge in a night away in the Winelands. We recently enjoyed an night over at Spier where we were treated like royalty. We had a wonderful experience staying with them and below is our experience and a few of my favourite images.

I was invited to spend the evening at Spier’s Hotel in Stellenbosch. I was a little reluctant as I’d had a really bad experience at their wine tasting a couple of years ago. During our tasting experience we felt like just another number being pushed through Spier’s conveyer belt – rushed to leave and ticked off a list as one less problem for the day.

I don’t like feeling like that. Cape Town has a wealth of incredible wine farms offering authentic, personal and unique experiences. We find it easy to chose an alternative when we are treated poorly. I have heard much praised on behalf of Spier subsequently so we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I am glad we did – because we were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived to our wave goodbye on departure. On arrival we were immediately handed a glass of wine – and pointed to the ice bucket should we wish a top up whilst they dealt with the admin of check in. We sat back with our glass of wine, admired the art and before we knew it we were checked in and ready to go!

Our Spier Hotel Room

I really really loved our hotel room. I loved the exposed wooden beams, the royal blue colour pops and the giant bed. We even had a beautiful fireplace opposite our bed for a cozy night in!

Our room was light and bright and such a lovely space. I could easily have stayed for longer and ordered room service and a roaring fire another night. Unfortunately we were out for dinner that evening but I would highly recommend Spier’s Hotel for a romantic night in.

Another great option on the Spier property is the Hoghouse BBQ and Bakery for dinner. I went on a Friday night and there was such a great vibe, cold beer and delicious plates of food. Furthermore, you don’t need to worry about drinking and driving – just call for the golf cart to take you home!

The hotel is spread out across little alley ways with exterior walls painted in pale pastel colours. I got really excited due to the coloured walls and I ran around demanding pictures. People were watching me from their rooms so I felt very embarrassed. Please enjoy my awkward face and excuse my skirt blowing in the wind.

Breakfast at Spier

Breakfast was a glorious affair with made to order eggs and pancakes, pastries, gourmet muesli bar, fresh fruits and a full hot breakfast buffet. Despite still being full from the night before we still managed to find a little space for breakfast treats!

We left after breakfast with big smiles on our face. Our night at the Spier Hotel reset my opinion of Spier. We felt looked after, welcome and not like just another face passing through.

I would highly recommend an escape to Spier. Additionally, I see from their website that if you book 60 days in advance you get 10% off. And that if you book for four nights – you only pay for three! Check out their website!
