20140503_125329The Elgin Valley Cool Wine & Country Festival is coming up on the 3rd of May 2014. Wine estates of the Elgin Valley will be open for wine tastings throughout the day and will be offering lunch and entertainment in the form of live music, boules games and vertical wine tastings.

Festival passes can be purchased at any participating wine farms on the day of the festival for just R50 per Glass Pass. A Glass Pass entitles you to a wine glass and access to the farms in the Elgin Region.

Elgin makes some incredible wine due to the intensity of the flavour of the grapes due to slow ripening and small berries. Some of my favourite wines can be found in the Elgin area. I would highly recommend the Elgin Valley Cool Wine & Country Festival as an opportunity to explore Elgin. Many of the farms are normally closed over the weekends on only taste by appointment so this festival is an opportunity to explore some hidden gems.

The menu is incredible with some serious treats including a twice baked goats cheese souffle and marinated springbok fillets.

They are also offering a Clonal blending experience with winemaker Joris van Almenkerk. Where you will have the opportunity to make up the best Sauvignon Blanc you can with 6 different Clones of Almenkerk Sauvignon Blanc 2014. This is such a wonderfully unique experience and not to be missed. The blending experience starts at 10am til 12:30pm and is free to all festival goers.
